The Emory Global Health Institute (EGHI) annually hosts a global health student photography contest. Emory students from multiple Emory schools and disciplines participate. Students typically enter photographs that they have taken while conducting global health projects in low-and-middle-income countries. However, for the 2021 contest, EGHI turned its focus on the United States and the numerous health issues that affect American residents.
EGHI made this change for the following reasons: 1) students have not been able to travel freely because of the pandemic, 2) global health challenges occur everywhere in the world, and 3) EGHI believes that turning the lens on the US is appropriate as our country continues to struggle with high COVID incidence and death rates, vaccine hesitancy, health disparities impacted by racial and social justice issues, and resistance to public health mitigation measures.
This ACP exhibit includes the winning and honorable mention photographs that students submitted to the 2021 contest.
